- Lot Description
- 1799 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-168, B-22. Rarity-5. VF-20 (PCGS).
A handsome piece with deep, rich steel-gray patina to both sides. We note both suitably bold definition and overall smooth surfaces in an early dollar that saw this extensive circulation. BB-168 is among the scarcer die marriages for the 1799 issue, its elusiveness no doubt attributed to the ever-present bisecting reverse crack that must have resulted in the early withdrawal of that die from production. BB Die State III-IV, with the obverse die beginning to shatter in the date area.
PCGS# 6878. NGC ID: 24X7.
