Lot Description
1867 Two-Cent Piece. FS-101. Doubled Die Obverse. MS-62 BN (PCGS). One of the most significant die varieties in the two-cent piece series, this bold pivoted doubled die is best seen as a fully separated second impression of the hub on all letters of IN GOD WE TRUST, not to mention strong doubling on many of the leaves on the left side. Surfaces are aglow with abundant original color on both sides for the Brown designation, the obverse especially so. The reverse die was filled with grease, especially at UNITED and the wreath below, which are especially weakly defined. Though readily available in the circulated grades, true Mint State coins like this are rare and bring strong premiums when they come to market.
