- Description du lot
- 1840-O Liberty Seated Dime. No Drapery. Fortin-101. Rarity-6. Large O. AU-55 (PCGS). CAC.
Lustrous and sharply defined, this engaging Choice AU is further enhanced by wisps of iridescent champagne-apricot toning. Fortin-101 is a rare die marriage of the 1840-O No Drapery dime, the obverse with repunching to stars 1 and 9, the reverse with a Large O mintmark. A more common later die state -- Fortin-101a -- is known, but the present example is the elusive early state with only a single light peripheral crack on the reverse from the border to the top of the final letter A in AMERICA. A find for the Liberty Seated dime variety enthusiast.
Provenance: From the E. Horatio Morgan Collection.
PCGS# 4574. NGC ID: 2382.
