Lot Description
1831 Capped Bust Dime. JR-3. Rarity-1. MS-65 (NGC). This is a thoroughly angelic example bathed in smooth, billowy satin luster. The obverse is vividly toned with cobalt blue peripheral highlights blending with rose and orange-apricot colors toward the center. The reverse is much lighter with soft golden-apricot highlights here and there around the border. A generally sharp strike has imparted intricate detail to all but a few isolated features. Near the pinnacle of surface preservation for the 1831 JR-3 die pairing, this Condition Census Gem is sure to sell for a strong bid. NGC Census (all die marriages of the issue): 30; 18 finer (MS-68 finest). PCGS# 4520. NGC ID: 237B. Click here for certification details from NGC. Additional image by NGC Photo Vision.
