Lot Description

This is a very pleasing, Choice XF B-17, BB-196. This variety is easily identifiable by the die clash that makes it look like Liberty has a collar. This one is totally original, with a warm olive and tan accented dove and pewter gray patina. Well struck and very pleasing coin is exceptional for the grade and worthy of a great type coin. PCGS 10, NGC 5, CAC 4. The only CAC-approved example to sell in auction was NGC-graded and realized $4,700 in a weaker market in February 2015 and the current PCGS Price Guide value value is listed at $4,500. Other, similar rarity dates have sold more recently in our sales, including a 1799/8 15 Star Reverse in our October 2017 Regency Auction for $5,053 and an 1801 in our September 2019 Regency Auction for $5,523.
