Lot Description

The record-setting P-mint production of Seated quarters that began with the 1853 Arrows and Rays delivery continued in 1857 when 9.6 million coins were produced. Despite its obvious status as one of the more plentiful No Motto issues in this series, the 1857 is still conditionally scarce as a Gem. This is a lightly toned on the obverse, brightly lustrous example with rich mint frost that thins ever-so-slightly to modest brightness in the fields. The peripheries are a little softly impressed, but the centers are suitably sharp in detail. Pleasing eye appeal overall.
