Losbeschreibung: 1788 New Jersey Copper. Maris 51-g, W-5480. Rarity-5+. Head Left, Batman Shield. Fine-12 (PCGS). 150.6 grains. The rarest of the Head Left varieties. Attractive golden tan with darker highlights around devices. A little striated on both sides, and somewhat softly struck at the reverse perimeter, as usual for the variety. Some scattered marks and scratches are seen, small rim nick over O of NOVA, but nothing disfiguring. Die State 2, with a subtle diagonal crack best seen at the front of the plowbar, but continuing diagonally across the horsehead. This is not only the toughest of the Head Lefts, it's also just a Maris number that is particularly hard to find in attractive condition. Provenance: From the E Pluribus Unum Collection.
