- 1854 Braided Hair Half Cent. C-1. Rarity-1. MS-63 RD (PCGS).
Fiery originalmint orange-red color predominates on the obverse and reverse, lightly blended with glints of steel-blue and other natural toning. Lustrous and frosty with a strike that is universally sharp from the rims to the centers. While half cents dated 1854 are regularly encountered in Mint State, finding one with original brilliance and frost, sharply struck, and with fantastic eye appeal is no mean feat. Indeed, these qualities propel this piece into the rarecategory.
