1866/1866 Shield Nickel. Rays. FS-302. Repunched Date. MS-65 (NGC). CAC. Captivating Gem Mint State quality for this dramatic RPD variety from the first year of the United States Mint's nickel five-cent series. The surfaces are brilliant with a full endowment of billowy satin luster. All four digits in the date are widely repunched, confirming this as a popular naked eye variety for the sharp-eyed numismatist. The 1866 FS-302 is also rare in Mint State, the present example CC#1 (or tied for that distinction) among certified pieces. An exciting and fleeting bidding opportunity for the specialist.
