Lot Description

These are scarce to rare in all grades, the 1865-S quarter a low mintage affair with just 41,000 pieces produced, the vast majority of which have long since been lost to commercial use on the West Coast. Among survivors, as confirmed by our online archives, most are in lower grades through VF and/or are significantly impaired. A noteworthy exception, the offered coin retains overall bold definition in the presence of light wear. Cleaned at one time, but now warmly retoned in pleasing mauve-gray, and also free of sizeable marks.
