Lot Description
THE CORONET COLLECTION This is the ULTIMATE Grant with Star half dollar. One of the KEYS to the series, only 4,256 were struck with the tiny star in the field above GRANT on the obverse, and this one is tied for second HIGHEST GRADED with just a single MS67+ graded higher. WOW! Superior surfaces are flawless. You can use a strong glass and look really hard for a long time and will not be disappointed. There are only some light Mint made striations visible. A way above average luster shows off the beautiful light and totally original pewter/pale purple color. This is NOT a dull or drab coin. Every detail is well struck. The eye appeal is super, and in our opinion it is unquestionably above and beyond all others in quality! Ex Heller Collection; Bowers & Merena, August 2010, lot 647; Legend Numismatics; Heritage, January 2012, lot 3397; Stack's Bowers, March 2016, lot 13242; Legend Numismatics; LRCA, Regency Auction XX, January 2017, lot 291; Heritage, August 2017, lot 4230; Heritage, January 2019, lot 4766; Unforgettable Collection, LRCA Regency Auction 53, July 2022, lot 25; our consignor. PCGS 6, NGC 11, CAC 2. This incredible coin brought a world record price of $55,813 in January 2022 and the current CAC CPG value is listed at $57,600. There is just a single example in MS67+ graded finer, a coin that has not sold in auction and would likely bring way more than the published levels. This coin is bound for another world class holding of classic commemoratives. Good luck. Cert. Number 29710767 PCGS # 9307
