Lot Description

Mintage: 63,000. 25 graded AU-53, 66 higher at NGC. For branch mint gold of the era, the mintage was fairly adequate, although very few survive even in the "about uncirculated" grade range. This appears to be a rather well defined example for an issue often seen weak, as the eagle displays nearly full plumage, and every one of the obverse stars has been nicely brought up by the dies. Tangible luster remains, but careful observers will find faint, irregular planchet depressions beneath the eagle's motif.
