The mintage of 6,300 circulation strike 1870 gold dollars was produced during an era when gold coins were not seen in circulation in the East and Midwest. Survivors are elusive in all grades, and this is a vivid and unusually smooth-looking piece at the BU grade level. A bit hazy in areas, yet with dominant bright orange-gold color.
