Lot Description

Light to moderate toning engages the left obverse periphery and upper right reverse. The surfaces are lustrous and satiny with bold strike detail in most areas. The "Scarface" name came from a most unusual die crack that originates at the rim between the letters E and P in the Latin motto, continues to the base of Liberty's nose, then down through the neck to the lower hair curls. This is one of the most dramatic broken dies in the entire Morgan dollar series, and undoubtedly struck in limited numbers. As such this variety has become very popular with collectors and has earned its way into the Top 100 VAM list.
