Losbeschreibung
1857 Liberty Seated Half Dime. Proof-66 (PCGS). CAC. A boldly impressed proof of the date with excellent eye appeal. The frosted design motifs and mirrored fields are aglow with rich olive-gold toning highlights. From an unknown but undoubtedly small proof production run for the date, probably on the order of just several dozen pieces, though we can't state that with any certainty. Tied for finest graded by PCGS, and one of just 26 proofs of the date listed in all grades; there may be some duplication of grading events at the Proof-64 level, as 14 specimens are listed there, the only grade in the mix to show double-digit figures. Choice both aesthetically and physically, and destined to be a focal point in the next cabinet it adorns.

Numismatic Reflections by Q. David Bowers
A splendid coin, a rarity, and a date which over the years we have found to be slightly rarer than those of 1856. The number coined is not known, but was probably fewer than 100. This was on the cusp of widespread popularity of coin collecting in the United States, which began in a large way in the following year, 1858 (at which time an estimated 210 silver proof sets were made).
