- Lot Description
- 1849-D Liberty Quarter Eagle. Winter 11-M. AU-58 (PCGS). Warm yellow gold with pleasing luster seen on both sides. Better struck than some seen, with sharp dentils around the entirety of the obverse, and a little weakness in this element on the reverse between 5:00 and 7:00, as mentioned in Winter. Central details are respectably sharp on both sides. One of 10,945 struck and considered by Winter to be about the median of the run of Dahlonega quarter eagle dates in terms of rarity. Still, this is a very nice grade for the issue, and PCGS has graded just four finer with the best piece being only MS-62. Essentially free of major marks and rather satisfying.
