- Description du lot
- A high end GEM example for the date and type. A very appealing and attractive blend of medium orange-gold patina and a bold swirling luster compliment a sharp strike and wonderful surface quality. While common in lower Mint State grades, unlike the 1901-S eagle, the 02-S is considerably RARE in MS65 or finer grades. PCGS 132, NGC 146, CAC 20. There are just 6 graded MS65+ at PCGS, with just a dozen specimens graded higher. While the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $4,500, this coin brought $4,818 in our September 2018 Regency Auction, and the market for PCGS/CAC gold is still very hot, and should bring much more today. The CAC CPG value for MS65 (no "+") is $5,380 and it jumps to $13,000 in MS66; it would not be a surprise to us if this coin brought a bid in that spread. Good luck. Cert. Number 35747962 PCGS # 8751
