- Deep, rich, honey-gold color is enhanced by vivid rose-orange patina. Both sides are boldly to sharply defined overall with ample luster remaining in a softly frosted texture. The Denver Mint's initial contribution to the Indian half eagle series amounted to 148,000 pieces. While the 1908 delivery from the Philadelphia Mint was saved in significant numbers as a first year issue, the 1908-D was overlooked with the result that it is far scarcer in all grades. This is a particularly attractive and well composed survivor at the AU-58 grade level that would do equally well in a mintmarked type set or specialized collection of 20th century gold coinage.
