Lot Description

Manley Die State 1.0, without the usually seen reverse die crack from the rim to the letter R in AMERICA. This die state is rare, per Manley (1998). Deep antique copper patina blankets both sides of this frosty, sharply defined example. The surfaces are hard and tight with no blemishes of note. Cohen-8 is the "common" Spiked Chin variety of the 1804 Draped Bust half cent, represented here by an inviting near-Mint survivor. Writing in his 2019 half cent reference Bill Eckberg assigns the delivery of this variety to June 26 or 30, 1804.
