Lot Description
A lovely, high grade 1902-O quarter, a remarkable condition rarity in the series. Among the highest graded from an original mintage of 4,748,000, this totally original toned GEM is tied in grade with the Clapp-Eliasberg-JFS-Thomas and Pittman-Friend-Duckor coins, putting it in special company in the condition census. Brilliant satiny luster blooms all over, bringing out the coppery-gold and dappled cobalt that is seen on the obverse; the reverse is mostly untoned with a pearly/silver hue. A strong glass and extremely careful inspection reveals a few tiny lines that are masked by the extremely attractive color. We are not entirely sure what CAC was seeing when they did not bean this PQ GEM. PCGS 9, NGC 1. The most recent MS66 example of this date was the Gene Gardner coin, graded by NGC, and sold for $7,050 in October 2015. This is NOT that coin. There are just five coins graded finer, most in MS66+. In MS66 the current Collectors Universe value is listed at $8,500. The Eliasberg example is CAC approved and most recently sold in May 2010 for $14,950. We will find out when the hammer falls on this high end beauty what the current value is. Good luck! Cert. Number 37903251 PCGS # 5632
