- Deeper ebony-grey lingers over most of the surface, relieved by shallower golden toning within the broad field areas. Details are a bit compromised by the kind of strike that seems typical for New Orleans coins of the era, but of course, there is also some obvious attrition of detail due to simple, honest circulation. For any collector of the series, 1897-O requires little by way of introduction as one of the three or four premier rarities in circulated grades.
