Lot Description

1814 Classic Head Cent. S-294. Rarity-1. Crosslet 4. EF-40 (PCGS). From the final year of the challenging Classic Head cent series comes this richly original, steel and copper-brown example. The strike is a bit tight to the right obverse and reverse borders, although both sides exhibit much of the denticulation around the borders, and all major design elements are boldly to sharply rendered. A dull mark at the top of Liberty's neck is the only noteworthy blemish to otherwise pleasingly smooth surfaces. Provenance: From the William L. Buxton Collection. PCGS# 1573. NGC ID: 224Y.
