Lot Description
Lot 129 1808 S-277 R2. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown.Lustrous tan and light chocolate brown. Satiny mint frost covers the fields and protected areas and this cent has great eye appeal. Nearly flawless; a microscopic planchet fissure between the feet of the E & R in AMERICA can help identify this cent. The obverse looks solidly mint state but there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the wreath. LDS, Breen state VIII, with a small internal cud break inside the D in UNITED and a narrow but clearly defined rim cud break over that N. Star 1 is weak due to sinking at STAT but it is still visible. Graded AU55 Choice and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #21518. Bland says AU55 and tied for CC#7 in his census. Our grade is AU58.(This cent has been graded as high as MS65 in prior auctions; a testament to its great eye appeal.) The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 4 finer: 1 in 62+, 1 in 63, 1 in 64, 1 in 66.(PCGS # 36457) Value $14,000 - UP A. H. Baldwin & Sons, Ltd.
