Lot Description

1853-D Liberty Half Eagle. Winter 29-V. Large D. EF-45 (NGC). Lightly worn overall, yet still suitably bold in the centers, the softness of strike evident at the borders is characteristic of the majority of 1853-D Half Eagles extant. Most abrasions are easily overlooked, the outward appearance on both sides dominated by warm, even, khaki-gold patina. As the most frequently encountered Dahlonega Mint Five, the 1853-D is always in demand for mintmarked gold type purposes.
