1816 N-4 R2. PCGS graded MS-66 Brown. CAC.Highly lustrous steel brown and light olive with 15% of the planchet showing mellowed mint red. Mint frost covers this cent and it has outstanding eye appeal. No spots or stains, and the best identifying mark is a barely visible flake on a dentil under the end of the wreath ribbon (as struck). Nicely struck with a bold curl on the forehead. M-LDS. The small dash between the C & A in AMERICA is dull but still visible and a trace of doubling shows on the left end of the bottom of the D in UNITED. Our grade is MS63. A great example of the variety; certainly comparable to the finest example of the variety in the Naftzger collection that brought $10,925 (our sale 2/1/2009:6). The attribution and Great Pacific Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; none finer.(PCGS # 36532) Value $5,000 - UP
Ex Thomas D. Reynolds 4/2004-Great Pacific Collection.
