- Lot Description
- Per Bill Eckberg in his 2019 reference on this series, the estimated mintage of the 1806-dated half cent issue is 555,000 pieces. This total includes the 356,000 coins delivered during calendar year 1806, as well as the 199,000 pieces delivered from January through September 1807, the latter including the Cohen-4 variety. Offered is a pleasing Mint State survivor of tis attribution with dominant golden-brown obverse toning, the reverse with faded rose-red mint color in the center surrounded by peripheral steel-olive patina. Frosty in texture, some marks on Liberty's cheek and coppery discoloration around the obverse border largely account for the MS-61 numeric grade from NGC. Manley Die State 2.0, with repunching to the digit 6 in the date no longer readily evident.
