- 1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar. O-105a, T-5. Rarity-2. Knobbed 6, Small Stars. AU-50 (PCGS).
This otherwise brilliant example is enhanced by iridescent peripheral toning in cobalt blue and reddish-apricot on the obverse. Ample luster remains, as befits the assigned grade, the detail suitably bold despite characteristic (for the die pairing) softness of strike. The 1806 Overton-105 variety represents the only use of this obverse die, readily identifiable by bold repunching to the letter T in LIBERTY and star 10. At the AU-50 level of preservation the coin offered here is conditionally rare and just shy of Condition Census. Tompkins Die Stage 4/2.
Provenance: From the Macon Collection.
PCGS# 6075.
