Lot Description
1870 Pattern Dollar. Judd-1016, Pollock-1150. Rarity-7-. Proof-63 RB (PCGS). OGH. Liberty is seated left on the obverse, her right hand supporting a liberty pole and her left resting atop a globe inscribed LIBERTY. There are 13 stars around the border, and the date 1870 is below. Liberty wears a feathered headdress, and a pair of flags are behind the portrait, one of which is ornamented with 22 stars. The reverse exhibits the same design used to strike regular issue 1870 Seated Liberty Silver Dollars. Struck in coper with a reeded edge.
An exquisite specimen with vivid color to the surfaces, we note shades of olive-orange, reddish-rose and lavender-copper that are most vibrant when observed with the aid of a strong light. Well mirrored in finish and fully struck, the eye appeal is superior at the lower reaches of Choice quality.
