1853/2 Liberty Double Eagle. FS-301. EF-45 (PCGS). OGH. Alone among universally recognized overdates in the Liberty Double Eagle series, the popularity of the 1853/2 among advanced collectors knows no bounds. When ranked as a distinct issue, the '53/2 actually emerges as the rarest Type I Double Eagle struck in the Philadelphia Mint, even outdistancing such luminaries as the 1862 and 1863. This khaki-rose example still retains appreciable luster in the protected areas around the devices. Bold-to-sharp in definition, with light wear and a smattering of abrasions that are largely commensurate with the grade. A somewhat glossy texture to the surfaces is noted for accuracy.
