Lot Description

Public outcry over the 1909 V.D.B. cents was so fast and intense that the first examples of the 1909 Lincoln cent without designer's initials were struck within days of the release of the former coins. The 1909 "plain" is scarcer than its V.D.B. predecessor in Mint State, especially the finest grades as represented by this conditionally rare Superb Gem. It is a beautiful example bathed in a bold blend of vivid orange ad rose mint colors and satiny luster. Fully struck, expertly preserved, and a delight to behold.
