Lot Description
"1783" (ca. 1860) Draped Bust Copper. Restrike. Musante GW-107, Baker-3, Vlack 17-L, W-10360. No Button. Bronzed Copper. Engrailed Edge. Proof-66 BN (NGC). This breathtakingly beautiful Gem reveals glints of iridescent blue undertoning to dominant antique copper patina. Direct lighting also calls forth decided reflective qualities from the fields, the devices retaining a softly frosted texture at all viewing angles. Fully struck with serene surfaces, it is difficult for us to imagine a more inviting example of the type. The Vlack 17-L restrikes of the Washington Draped Bust copper were issued by Australian medalist W.J. Taylor during the 1860s. The coins were struck from new dies that were prepared using the original device punches. Provenance: Ex Winslet Collection. NGC Census: 4; 2 finer in this category (both Proof-67 BN). PCGS# 685. NGC ID: 2B6T. Click here for certification details from NGC.
