Lot Description: Superior striking quality and surface preservation for this challenging early New Orleans Mint Morgan dollar issue. The finish is remarkably reflective in the fields, which areas contrast markedly with thickly frosted, smartly impressed design elements. Brilliant and visually appealing, there is much to recommend this coin to advanced collectors of prooflike Morgan dollars. As observed by Wayne Miller in his famous <em>Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook</em>, "Many prooflike 1880-O's are cameos; when not heavily bagmarked, they command a significant premium." This is just such a coin, especially since there are only two examples graded finer than MS-64 DMPL/DPL at PCGS and NGC combined.
