- 1776 Machin's Mills Halfpenny. Vlack 6-76A, W-7790. Rarity-4. GEORGIVS III, Large Date. Fine-15 (PCGS). Deep golden-tan surfaces present a somewhat glossy appearance in-hand, though low magnification reveals some minor roughness here and there. No overbearing marks are present, and the sharpness is superb for the assigned grade. A popular rarity among the Machin's Mills issues, and the only variety from that hardware manufactory with the "magic" date 1776; the demand for the variety far outstrips the number of pleasing specimens available -- of which this is one. PCGS# 460.
