Lot Description
A totally original, very high end and lustrous SUPERB GEM! The extremely clean surfaces are of superior quality and offer a thick, satiny lustrous mint bloom. The luster is unbroken as you rotate it in a light. Clearly this coin sat undisturbed with the reverse in contact with whatever holder, imparting a moderate blend of olive/reddish gold/gold/pale blue hues, while the obverse is more of a pearly silver with champagne-gold and pewter-tan accents. Miss Liberty and the details stand out with crisp sharp strikes. The eye appeal is excellent! Even using a strong glass we cannot find any distracting anything, and we think perhaps the slightly uneven pattern of the tone is all that kept CAC from awarding this impressive, condition census SUPERB GEM a green bean. PCGS 2, NGC 1. The only PCGS example to ever sell was a CAC coin that last brought $20,000 in the 2015 ANA auction (Greensboro Collection, ex Dr. Duckor, where it originally sold for $34,500!). The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $25,500. Just a single coin is graded higher, making this a fine addition to any high ranking PCGS Registry Set. Upgrade your 1899 today! Cert.
