Lot Description

Faded brassy-gold color backlights rich toning in antique copper and steel-brown. Sharply struck and well centered, all elements of the design are fully appreciable during in hand viewing. Light pitting in the planchet is of minimal concern, and there are no marks; a few old carbon spots are scattered around the reverse periphery, one or two at right approaching the level of light corrosion. Both sides are double struck with close spread between the impressions, although the doubling is plainly evident when the coin is examined under magnification. A handsome piece, desirable as a representative of this challenging Rosa Americana penny type with the VTILE DVLCI rendering.
