Lot 144 1847 N-41 R4- PCGS graded AU58.Glossy light chocolate brown and olive with nearly a dozen small spots of reddish brown toning at the top of the obverse. The notable contact marks are a collection of tiny ticks in the field before the mouth and a small horizontal tick on the throat just below the jawline. E-MDS, die state b. The early lines over UNI are still visible but the line connecting the bottoms of the U & N is gone. Our grade is EF45,tied for CC#9 honors for a variety that was unknown to Howard Newcomb. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
