Lot Description
THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION, PART IV Ex Dick Osburn Collection, as noted on the insert. The FINEST CAC approved 1855/54! A nice early die state of WB-102 with a clearly visible doubled upright on the 5 and cross bar of the 4 noted beneath the final 5. Scarce in all grades and an extreme rarity in GEM condition. This marvelous example is well within the Condition Census of this popular overdate; indeed, PCGS has only graded three finer, none of which are CAC approved. Wonderfully original surfaces have a gentle blush of pearlescent silver over brilliant satiny luster. Nicely struck from clashed dies, the only softness is located at the eagle's thigh. A very handsome and wholesome example with a bold visual allure. Ex Dick Osburn Collection, Stack's Bowers, August 2011 ANA Auction, lot 7049; Heritage, April 2014, lot 4405; our consignor. PCGS 2, NGC 2, CAC 1. This was the most recent MS64 example graded by PCGS to sell in auction, and while 2014 seems like only yesterday, it has been tucked away for nearly a decade! The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $6,500 and the CAC CPG value is $6,750. With none of the three coins that PCGS has graded higher approved by CAC, if you are building an all CAC set, this is the FINEST you can obtain! Bid accordingly. Cert. Number 32943990 PCGS # 6282
