Description du lot
The HM-5 die pair offered here is one of the more common varieties for the first year of this "transitional" series, listed as Rarity-2. The obverse die features a triple punched 4. A bold, flashy, semi-reflective luster blazes boldly on both sides of this CHOICE Mint State half eagle. The devices are nicely rendered by an exacting blow from the dies. There are some minor lines and ticks visible with the aid of a glass; many of the lines are die polish and striations as made at the mint. A rich orange gold color compliments the brilliance and imparts a sensational eye appeal. PCGS 49, NGC 34. The most recent non-CAC PCGS-graded example sold for $13,800 in August 2021; today the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $20,000. We expect this highly appealing CHOICE Mint State Classic Head $5 will exceed our estimate. A great coin for type or date purposes! Cert. Number 45659960 PCGS # 8171
