Lot Description: Manley Die State 2.0. A frosty and predominantly steely olive-copper example, albeit one that also retains appreciable faded mint orange color close in to many of the design elements. The obverse is universally sharp in strike, the reverse less well defined with softness within the lower right and upper portions of the wreath, as well as at the letters ES in STATES. This pattern of strike is not usual for the issue, however, and matches that of the Manley plate coin for Die State 2.0. Subtle lilac-blue undertones enhance the eye appeal and strengthen the originality of this premium MS-63 example.Of the four die marriages confirmed for the 1806-dated half cent issue, all were produced during that year except for Cohen-4, which is a product of calendar year 1807. It is also the only die pairing of the issue that corresponds to the Large 6, Stems to Wreath Guide Book variety. Thanks to a hoard dispersed by S.H. and H. Chapman circa 1906, the 1806 C-4 is one of the more available Draped Bust half cent varieties in Mint State. The present offering will certainly appeal to both high grade type collectors and advanced early copper enthusiasts.The Generation 3.1 PCGS insert uses coin #1093, which is now reserved for the Small 6, Stemless Wreath Guide Book variety of the 1806 Draped Bust half cent.
