Lot Description

1809 Classic Cent. S-280, the only known dies. Rarity-2. Noyes Die State B. AU-53 (PCGS). Dominant medium brown patina to the obverse, the reverse is generally lighter in a appearance with golden-brown toning. For both sides we note a tight, glossy texture that is free of the detracting porosity that is seen all too often in examples of the challenging Classic cent series of 1808 to 1814. A few wispy handling marks and faint spots are so small as to be singularly inconspicuous to the eye. Appealing and conditionally scarce AU quality for the high grade type collector or early copper specialist.
