A very popular and GORGEOUS modern issue, reproducing one of St. Gaudens’ experiments of 1907 where the $20 was struck in ultra high relief on a thicker, reduced diameter planchet (hoping that the extra metal would make striking easier). This never came to fruition, and only a single original is known, impounded in the Smithsonian. Housed in an Early Releases holder. PCGS 807, NGC 380. (For First Strike/Early Release designated holders) According to our auction database, the most recent NGC example to sell in auction realized, $2,291 in June 2014.
