Lot Description
1802/1 BD-2. Rarity-5+. AU-55 (PCGS). This rich yellow golden specimen reveals only a few minor marks at the upper obverse, otherwise the overall presentation is entirely satisfying. The fields and design features offer plenty of vibrance, and the overall strike is clearly above the norm for this issue. Of the three known die varieties of this date, the variety offered here is without question the rarest by a wide margin. PCGS Population: 9; 23 finer (MS-63 finest). Quarter eagles of the early years from 1796 through 1807 furnish a particularly alluring collecting opportunity. The basic varieties as listed in A Guide Book of United States Coins are all collectible, although some are quite scarce and rare. These little cameo-like coins are very attractive, and a display of them furnishes a pride of ownership.
