Lot Description

A lovely choice example of the JR-3 variety which matches the Large E’s reverse with the second 23/2 overdated obverse die. Both sides are awash in attractive patina. An attractive, satiny specimen without any obvious distractions. All 1823 dated coins are over dates from leftover 1822 dies. It would be great if all MS63s could be this nice. PCGS 11, NGC 7 (NGC makes no distinction between the Large E and Small E reverse varieties. The most recent one sold in our May 2016 Regency Auction, realizing $3,643. Keep in mind only 10 are graded finer, and in MS63 the PCGS value is $4,000. Cert. Number 85196955 PCGS # 4499
