Lot Description
1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 34-k.3, W-4055. Rarity-7. Draped Bust Left. AU-55 (PCGS). Deep golden-tan with sharply struck devices and excellent centering. Somewhat glossy to the unaided eye, but low magnification reveals uniform microfissuring on the obverse, as struck, and some faint granularity on the reverse is noted. Still, there is no denying the grade for both sharpness and overall quality. Not in Taylor, Perkins, Ford, or Tanenbaum (Collection SLT), and no doubt lacking in most of the major Connecticut copper cabinets currently being formed. Indeed, the present coin is undoubtedly High Condition Census, and perhaps the finest known of this highly elusive issue. A savvy specialist in the Connecticut copper discipline knows instinctively that competition for this jewel will be fast and furious, something to keep in mind should you decide this rare copper is for you.
