Lot Description

1874-S Liberty Eagle. AU-55 (NGC). Deep honey gold with pale orange and rose highlights. Some lightly scattered marks are present, none of them overly offensive or at the main focal points, and most of them only visible under low magnification. The design elements are sharp for the grade. Just 10,000 eagles of this issue were struck, and in AU as here, the date is a formidable rarity. No Mint State examples of the date have been certified by NGC; we note here that PCGS is without a Mint State listing for the date as well.
