Losbeschreibung
1859-C Gold Dollar. Winter-1, the only known dies. AU-58 (PCGS). Orange-gold surfaces reveal a few blushes of warmer pale-rose tinting here and there. The central design elements are typically defined, noticeable weakness is seen at the rims. A couple of abrasions are noted to the left of Liberty's chin in the obverse field. The 1859-C is the final Gold Dollar delivery from the Charlotte Mint, and it is an elusive issue in all grades with just 5,235 coins struck. In terms of total number of coins believed extant, in fact, the 1859-C is tied with the 1850-C as the second-rarest gold dollar from the Charlotte Mint. Provenance: From the Augustana Collection. PCGS Population: 17;16 finer (MS-63 finest). There are probably several resubmissions included in these totals. PCGS# 7552. NGC ID: 25CM. To view all items from the Augustana Collection, click here.
