- Lot Description
- Virtually untoned and platinum-white, allowing the spectacular surface quality to take center stage. The devices are cloaked in rich, satiny luster, starkly contrasting with the reflective fields. Fully struck and essentially untouched. Along with the Proof issues of 1896 and 1897, the 1898 is the most consistently well produced and attractive in the Barber silver series. Even so, few survivors from a mintage of 735 Proofs for the 1896 quarter are as exquisite as this gorgeous specimen. It represents an important opportunity for both type collectors and specialists.
