Highly lustrous satin surfaces also reveal modest semi-reflective tendencies in the fields as the coin dips into a light. Fully struck with vivid green-golden patina, both sides are exceptionally smooth and well preserved in a survivor of this 930,150-piece issue. Thanks to the repatriation of coins from foreign bank hoards, the 1892-S double eagle is readily obtainable in AU and lower Mint State grades through MS-63. In MS-64 this issue is scarce, while beginning at the present grade level examples are rare and seldom encountered under normal market conditions. A fleeting bidding opportunity for the advanced double eagle collector.<p><p><p>
