Lot Description

1786 New Jersey Copper. Maris 14-J, W-4810. Rarity-1. Straight Plow Beam, Stegosaurus Head. AU-55 BN (NGC). Hard satin surfaces exhibit intermingled reddish-rose highlights to dominant golden-brown patina. The strike is well centered and, while some of the border denticulation is off the flan, all design elements are boldly to sharply rendered. A few minor marks and planchet flaws notwithstanding, the in hand appearance is predominantly smooth, and the eye appeal is strong. This plentiful die marriage is a perennial favorite among type collectors of colonial and early Federal era coinage. Die State 2, with a bulge running from the 1 of the date across the bust truncation to RE of CAESAREA, a typical die state. PCGS# 45423. NGC ID: AUKJ. Click here for certification details from NGC.
