Lot Description
This pleasingly original example is toned in a blend of autumn-brown, golden-brown and light olive with deeper color associated with light surface scale at the left reverse border. There are also a couple of small spots before the seated figure, both sides with light, shallow flan flaws drifting through the effigy on the obverse, within the seated figure's legs on the reverse. No marks of note, overall detail bold apart from minor softness in the centers, upper right obverse and lower reverse borders lightly into the letters AUCTO and date digits, respectively. The reverse die of this variety was also used in the RR-12 and RR-32 pairings. The fact that most RR-14s show little to none of the reverse break above the seated figure's head confirms that this is the first of the three varieties produced. On the present example, the border break is present, but only just starting to expand, suggesting that this is an earlier impression from the RR-14 pairing.
